Update 2 - 18 March 2020
In response to Coronavirus, your safety is our top priority
Dear Valued Customer,
Emit has always been dedicated to the health and well-being of all our Visitors, Customer, Suppliers
and our Staff. You all remain the cornerstone of our business and the reason why we are in business.
On Sunday night, instead of being pinned to Carte Blanche, South Africans were glued to their chairs
awaiting the address from our President Cyril Ramaphosa, who addressed the nation and
declared a State of National Disaster. We, at Emit, feel morally and legally obliged to take the President’s
guidelines seriously and to follow the State of Disaster Laws.
Furthermore, we believe that the health and well-being of all who visit any of our facilities are and will
always be our priority. So too, our drivers and staff being visitors to your sites or operations is of the
highest importance.
Due to the current outbreak of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus), we would like to share our policy to date.
As a responsible business, to ensure we contribute to global attempts to slow the progression of the
virus, we have put together an extensive precautionary action plan that we launched earlier this week:
Staff education surrounding Covid-19 and subsequent hygiene measures have been
undertaken with continuous updates:Close personal contact such as shaking hands and hugging must be avoided
Frequent hand washing with anti-bacterial soap
Contact with one’s own face must be avoided
Coughs and sneezes must be covered with a tissue that is immediately disposed of
Hydrate frequently
All international and local travel is no longer permitted
We are in the process of making industrial grade sanitisers available at all our branches.
Dedicated staff members have been tasked with operating mobile sanitiser points at all our
branches.Anti-bacterial soaps can be found in every bathroom.
Additional cleaning and sterilisation measures have been implemented throughout all our
branches.Meetings will be conducted virtually unless under exceptional circumstances - avoiding face
to face exposureHand sanitizers will also be available at the waiting area for visitors to make use of.
Everyone entering our premises will have their temperature tested on arrival and should
their temperature be higher than 37 degrees then they will be denied access onto the site.We are taking steps to enhance the cleaning techniques of our vehicle after each use.
We are not able to get face masks anywhere. We have therefore ordered “neck buffs” that
our drivers will use to cover their nose and mouth when required during the delivery
process. Please see below picture of the buffs being issued later this week:
Contactless Delivery and collection
We are following the industry examples of Contactless Delivery & Collections. As detailed above our enhanced hygiene measures also extend to our Delivery Crews who are now required to execute contactless deliveries and collections.
Our drivers have been instructed not to make physical contact with any customers and to maintain a safe distance. All Cargo will be placed in delivery areas indicated by the customer/receiver, the driver will then back away and allow the customer to retrieve their cargo themselves.
We still urge customers to sign delivery waybills / PODs with their own stationery, our drivers are advised to not “supply a pen”. For Customers that are not comfortable with the handling the paperwork, should simply quote their name and details to the driver who will complete the required information on their behalf
In the words of President Cyril Ramaphosa, ‘It is true that we are facing a grave emergency. But if we act together, if we act now, and if we act decisively, we will overcome it.’
We wish to assure you that we are doing all we can to limit the spread of this infection and will continue to do so!
Regards and Stay Healthy
